As the busy summer travel season approaches, Virtuoso surveyed its travel advisors in the 2018 Virtuoso Luxe Report on destinations and trends affecting family travel. One growing trend? Generation Z (the “iGeneration”) is coming on strong. This group consists of people born between the mid-1990s and mid 2010s (now about 3-23 years old). It is the largest age group in the U.S., with more than a quarter of the population. And the Luxe Report found that this tech-savvy group has considerable influence over family travel decisions.
These digital natives crave active experiences, involve themselves in planning trips, influence other’s travel choices by word of mouth or social media, seek unusual destinations, and look for visual experiences for social media.
While Italy, Mexico, England, Orlando, and France still reign supreme in the hottest family travel destinations, Virtuoso advisors say families are heading beyond tried and true locales, partly thanks to the desires of Gen Z.
African and Asian destinations rank high on this list – Botswana, Mongolia, United Arab Emirates, and Egypt debut on the list this year.
