Not to be outshined by the UK’s fashion frenzy, the Met’s Costume Institute is spotlighting one of the world’s most unconventional designers with Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between. The show explores the dualities that fascinate the Japanese designer – clothes/not clothes, high/low, self/other – through roughly 150 of Kawakubo’s garments, dating from the early 1980s to the present. May 4 through September 4, 2017.
